Pumpkin Cake = Mistakes = Treat

Mirielle and I saw this Pumpkin Cake in a food mag. Being strangely ambitious for a Sunday and loving this fall weather, we decided to embark on this complicated recipe. The cake was absolutely moist and to die for. But the frosting, yikes! I accidentally burnt it slightly and thought I had enough powdered sugar, but apparently not! It tasted like we were eating a stick of burnt butter.

But, with every mistake comes a lesson, but lately I have been calling it a "treat."

Believe me, I am the worst in taking rejection way too personally. If someone doesn't like my work, it would be a direct slam on my core, my being. Time to have a drink, that sort of thing. I am in misery, sob story, blah blah.

This reminds me of a quote I recently heard that refers to photography, but can be altered to use towards anything you do - "If you hate your work, you'll get better faster. Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst." - Henri Cartier-Bresson

This quote is from an amazing legendary photographer who worked in film and considered the father of photojouralism. For film it was 10,000 photographs, so now for digital it would probably be something like 4 million photographs?? or maybe more???

I can't tell you how many times I have failed miserably, luckily my clients weren't too fussy, but I really, really sucked, and had no idea what I was doing.

But those pieces of the puzzle, only by failing and falling and making mistakes, slowly start to play as you wrestle them to the ground.

So, am I being really out there if I say, "Be happy when you make mistakes!"? Embrace them.

Wow, all this digression came from a Pumpkin Cake?

Out of the Blue

Out of the blue, I remember this Disney movie in 2000 called Fantasia that was my most favorite...

Probably since I have always had classical music streaming into my ears someway or another growing up. What a wonderful beautiful sound!

This part of Fantasia 2000 hits a chord with me :
